description
The development of the design of ‘Faust is Dead’ happened concurrently
with the writing of the script, the making of a video for the performance
and the initial rehearsal period. Scenes were made by suggesting an edge to
an implied space or by using video to represent a place naturalistically.
The elements of the set became the other members of the cast and the real
journey of the narrative is mirrored by the dance that the set plays around
the characters; in the moving screens, the sliding panel, the television set,
and the iron bed.

‘A world famous philosopher arrives in LA and is hailed as a start.
He announces the Death of Man, the End of History and the Beginning of Chaos.
Faust and Mephisto meet again. There's nothing left to learn but everything
to experience.
The legend of Faust is one that has captivated and disturbed audiences for
centuries. atc's provocative new version catapults this medieval legend into
the 1990's and an underworld of politics, drugs and sexual exploration.
Conceived and directed by atc's Artistic Director Nick Philippou in collaboration
with writer Mark Ravenhill (Shopping & F***ing) and video artist/performer
Alain Pelletier from Montreal, Faust is a thrilling alternative evening of
classic theatre.’
